Te Ipukarea Society has partnered up with Kōrero O Te `Ōrau and the Cook Islands Voyaging Society in an historic voyage on the Marumaru Atua vaka to our northern islands, the Pa Enua Tokerau.
The voyage, called Tāua e Moana - Ocean & I, aims to initiate discussion with the communities on these islands about ocean health.
We hope it will be a mutually beneficial opportunity. For those island communities to share knowledge and any concerns they may have about our ocean, and for those on the vaka to raise awareness about the current and/ or potential threats to the health of the Moana Nui o Kiva (Pacific Ocean).
The team consists of 17, and departed Rarotonga on the morning of 16th June in 20 to 25 knot easterly winds.
